Over the next three weeks, audiences will be able to explore a curated series of blogs, videos, films and podcasts, celebrating the creativity, ideas and voices that have shaped the festival. Working with the artists and partners that make Freedom Festival possible, we have created a space to share more content about the great work that takes over the streets of Hull every summer holidays.

Designed to be experienced in your own time, the programme also offers those who couldn’t attend, including our national and international friends, a chance to get a flavour of the festival. Each weekly programme runs Thursday to Sunday, starting on Thursday 12th March, with a new theme introduced each week.

WEEK ONE
'BEHIND THE SCENES'

12th March - 15th March

We begin by taking you behind the curtain. This first week offers a sneak peek into the creative worlds of some of the artists who have taken part in Freedom Festival over the years.

Discover how artists develop work for the streets, what inspires their performances, and how their ideas come together. From early concepts to rehearsals and the moments before stepping into the spotlight, this is a chance to see what happens when the stage lights fade and the real creative process begins. It’s also a chance to experience some of the great works from the festival in new and exciting ways.

Get your behind the scenes and explore some of the works in new spaces.

WEEK TWO
'IDENTITY, JUSTICE & FREEDOM'

19th March - 22nd March

Freedom Festival has always been rooted in conversations around identity, justice and the meaning of freedom.

Our second week explores these themes through a variety of artistic voices and forms. Through film, discussion and creative storytelling, artists reflect on what freedom means today and how it intersects with culture, community, and personal experience.

WEEK THREE
'CREATIVITY & CLIMATE ACTION'

26th March -29th March

Environmental awareness and sustainability have become an important part of our festival programme. In the final week of Freedom Online, we explore how artists are responding to the climate crisis and local environmental challenges.

Through their work, these artists highlight the urgency of climate action while also imagining hopeful and creative possibilities for a more sustainable future.
