About the event

'Black' is a compelling dance piece performed by dancer and choreographer Oulouy, that chronicles the polarising experience of blackness in today's world, and rethinks the Black African body in the Western world.

With hints at recent history - the #BlackLivesMatter movement, the murder of George Floyd - this performance reflects on the violence and emancipation of blackness in contemporary times through a body that challenges and disturbs, is wounded and celebrated. Oulouy moves around a simple space, with street dance styles of the African continent and visual and musical elements, allowing the symbolism of the piece to speak.

Who are the artists? This performance is choreographed by artist Oulouy and produced by Africa Moment. 'Black' is one of Oulouy's first pieces, created in 2020, and he has gone on to create many other stage works that have been presented internationally. He is also the founder and curator of the festival…
